Our Story
My Fabric Stash was founded in May 2025 by Helen Bakker the owner of Collective Talents.
Helen promotes zero waste design principles & textile diversion as the NEW Normal.
Collective Talents has been running sewing & educational workshops since 2015 as a retail business & offering school holiday events at community hubs & as the NEST Group in 2024.
The NEST Group was established to educate & implement a volunteer network of textile diversion with the mentoring support of Intercept NZ based in Whangarei.
Sustainable Orewa granted $1000 for youth sewing workshops & community sewing machines. HBC Community House Trust contributed a $900+ donation towards NEST Group costs as well as support thru their Opportunity Shop in Orewa & their venue rooms.
We are in a very unique coastal location that is continuing in population growth as well as providing retirement living.
We also have 20 + opportunity or "thrift" stores operating within a small radius as well as established charity groups needing support.
Our Process
We offer to rescue textiles & crafts resources from homes & businesses across Auckland, ensuring they are given a purpose rather than go unused or put into landfill.
We can list for sale or donate your fabric & craft supplies into our community network.
Giving Back
We are establishing the systems & community engagement to implement an online & future physical Resource & Textile Centre in our local community of Whangaparaoa, Auckland.
Proceeds enable Helen to work on this mission focus as well as provide funds & physical donation of goods to groups needing support.
